Getting to the Acropolis in Athens
The Acropolis is centrally located in Athens and is easily accessible by public transport. You can also walk to the Acropolis in Athens from the city center in less than 30 minutes.
By Metro:
Line 2 (Red Line): “Akropoli” stop (approx. 5-minute walk to the main entrance) – the route to the Athenian Acropolis for most tourists
Line 1 (Green Line) or Line 3 (Blue Line): “Monastiraki” stop (approx. 10-15 minutes walk to the Acropolis entrance)

Lines 230, 035, 106, and 550 stop near the Acropolis.
The “Makrygianni” stop is particularly conveniently located.
By tram:
Tram T5 (Syntagma – Voula): “Leoforos Vouliagmenis” stop, about a 10-minute walk.
Arriving at the Acropolis of Athens on the red line of the Athens Metro 2 is by far the most popular way for tourists to get there. Simply get off at the Acropoli metro station and follow the crowds. The famous Acropolis Museum is also close to this metro station.
By car:
There are no official parking spaces directly at the Acropolis.
Parking is available in the surrounding streets (e.g., in Koukaki or Plaka), although it is often paid and limited.

Arrival by car:
Route: From the city center, Syntagma Square, head southeast on Leoforos Vasilisis Amalias, passing the National Garden and the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Continue on Leoforos Andrea Siggrou. Turn right onto Amvrosiou Frantzi and follow Anastasiou Zinni, Zacharitsa, and Garivaldi Streets. Finally, turn left onto Rovertou Galli, where the main entrance to the Acropolis is on the right.
Parking: There are both free and paid parking options around the Acropolis. For example, Metropark Athens offers parking within walking distance of the Acropolis. Another parking lot is Parking Kostas at Aggelou Vlachou 8, about a 10-minute walk away. Parking Siggrou 32 also offers outdoor parking until 10:00 PM daily.
Please note that the streets around the Acropolis are often very busy, especially during peak tourist times. Therefore, it is recommended to arrive early or consider alternative means of transport (see metro above) to avoid delays.
Entrances to the Acropolis
There are two official entrances to the Acropolis:
1. Main Entrance (West Entrance, also called North Entrance)
Location: On Dionysiou Areopagitou Street
Access to the Propylaea, the Parthenon, the Erechtheion, and other monuments
2. South Entrance (also called East Entrance) – less crowded
Location: Near the Theater of Dionysus, along Dionysiou Areopagitou Street, very close to the Acropoli metro station (red line 2), just follow the crowds
Access to the Acropolis via the southern slope (Theater of Dionysus, Odeon of Herodes Atticus)
Recommendation: Ideal for visitors who also want to visit the theater
If you need an accessible route, there is a wheelchair elevator at the south entrance (only available with prior registration).
Many thousands of tourists visit every day. It is recommended to book entrance tickets, tours of the Acropolis of Athens, etc., in advance through Getyourguide, as the lines and wait times at the ticket offices can be extremely long.
