Acropolis Opening Hours (Athens)

Posted by

The opening hours of the Acropolis in Athens vary depending on the season. Greece’s most important monument opens every morning at 8:00 a.m. year-round. The Acropolis closes at 8:00 p.m. in the summer and earlier in winter months when it gets dark earlier:

Acropolis Summer Opening Hours (April 1 to October 31):

1.April to August 31: 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
1.September to September 15: 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
16.September to September 30: 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
1.October to October 15: 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
16.October to October 31: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Winter Opening Hours (November 1 to March 31):

Daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Last admission is 30 minutes before closing time. There is no day off or anything similar; unlike many museums in Athens, the Acropolis of Athens is open as usual, even on Mondays. With millions of visitors every summer, it’s impossible to restrict opening hours. However, due to the large number of visitors, lines, and waiting times, it’s best to visit outside of peak times: especially in summer, early morning, for example. It’s obviously better in winter than in midsummer.

Important: Bring drinking water and buy tickets online in advance at Getyourguide (click here), as the ticket lines are often hours long.
